Longines Heritage watches are not in a single collection; you can find them in the brand’s catalog. Longines first divides its watch collections into Classic and Sport collections. The original vintage Longines Silver Arrow watch debuted in 1956 and was named after the famous Mercedes-Benz racing car. The watch may have taken its name from the car, but its official symbol was a supersonic aircraft – a symbol that remains on the caseback of the modern version’s 38.5 mm steel case. This careful self-winding watch features a silvered opaline dial with striped indexes, lance-shaped hands, and the name Silver Arrow.

Based on design standards set by the U.S. Army in the 1930s, its sloping arrangement is the most distinctive feature of the Longines A-7 Navigator. This 41 mm steel watch is an automatic single-pusher chronograph with the pushers located on the upper right side of the case. The tilted dial is designed to be worn on the inside of the wrist to align with the instruments on the aircraft – the pilot can read it without letting go of the controls.
In 1987, the Lindbergh timepiece kicked off the entire Longines Heritage collection. The company decided to make a commemorative edition of the Longines watch designed by Charles Lindbergh and Captain Weems to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the pilot’s historic solo non-stop flight across the Atlantic. The 1987 version of the Lindbergh timepiece was a huge success, paving the way for all the Longines replicas that have filled the Heritage collection to date.
The Longines Lindbergh Hour Angle currently in production retains the large 47.5 mm steel case of the original version, as well as Captain Weems’ creative design of an internal rotating dial that synchronizes the second’s hand with the radio time signal and a rotating bezel that adjusts to daily changes in the time equation.
The Longines Heritage Military is based on a 1940s watch designed for the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. The 38.5 mm steel case has a period-looking beige dial with small hand-painted black beads, which makes each piece slightly different. The dial features three blue hands pointing to Arabic numerals, driven by an automatic movement.
On the other hand, the Longines Heritage Military Sea State draws inspiration from the fake watches offered to the French Navy after World War II. Although the modern replica is larger than the original ref. 5774 and uses an automatic movement instead of a hand-wound one, the design is still very similar between the old and the new.
